Many women will go to incredible lengths for beauty and in ten instances I’m going to show you just how far some women will go. Be prepared because some of it isn’t pretty. Ironic isn’t it?
10) Bird Poop Facial
Yes, that’s right that is what it says. Bird Poop. The nightingale droppings are purified using UV light and come in a powdered form that is mixed with rice bran to neutralize odor. Once applied to the face, natural enzymes break down dead cells and cleanse the skin. This is no new routine though, dating back to ancient Japan when Kabuki actors and geisha’s would use it to remove their makeup. It’s not cheap either, at $180 for the procedure this bird poo regimen will give you cleaner, brighter and more radiant looking skin.
9) Placenta Face Cream
Sounds pretty gross don’t it? Not something you’d really want to put on your face? Well, apparently Madonna and Eva Longoria are fans. It is made from sheep placenta protein extract, also known as living cell therapy. Supposedly the placenta is known to improve metabolic process, accelerate tissue regeneration and stimulate immunity. Hmm, I wonder if it actually works?
8) Snake Venom Facial
I don’t know how I feel about this. If I was out in the wilderness and a snake bit me I’d be begging someone to suck the venom out not using it as a beauty treatment, but Katie Holmes and Gwyneth Paltrow don’t see it that way. The way it works: the venom mimics the effects of a snake bite leaving the skin in a state of shock. It literally freezes the face and tightens out the fine lines. Weird way to do, but to each their own.
7) Fish Pedicure
Have you ever put your finger in a fish bowl and had one of the fish come up and suck on your finger? Well, imagine a bunch of them doing it to your feet! Normally in a spa the tank will contain up to 100 Garra Rufa fish, which have no teeth but nibble on the dead skin of your feet. It’s like getting a pedicure without all the roughness. Kind of sounds good to me!
6) 24K Gold Facial
Yikes! That sounds expensive! Well, it is in every sense of the word. In this treatment fine pieces of 24 karat gold leafs are place about the face and massaged into the skin. Gold is rich with therapeutic benefits: it stimulates collagen production, tightens and tones the face and leaves you glittering with luminosity. At $250 a treatment this sounds absolutely heavenly; I mean who wouldn’t want to be smeared with gold?
5) Caviar Facial
I guess this isn’t just an expensive snack anymore. Freeze-Dried Caviar, imported from Switzerland, that is thawed out in room temperature water is smeared onto the face. It is absorbed into the skin through electrical currents, which treats fine lines and wrinkles under the surface. Caviar is rich in amino acids, vitamins, anti-oxidants and it moisturizes the skin helps repair sun damage, and softens the appearance of wrinkles. Who knew a fine food could also be a fine beauty treatment as well!
4) Cup of Chi
I bet you look just as puzzled as I did, don’t you? Well it’s not so complicated once you hear what it is. It’s an ancient Chinese practice called cupping. It helps boosts circulation, strengthen immunity and improve overall healing. Based on the principal that the spine correlates to all the other organs in the body, the treatment involves placing plastic cups along the back to create suction where chi energy is stagnant. When the cups are removed an overall feeling of relaxation and release is supposed to fill your body. I don’t know about you, but I’d give it a try!
3) Fanny Facial
Now you’ve heard of facials for the face but have you heard of facial’s for the butt? Well, that’s precisely what this is! A papaya and mint body scrub is rubbed on the buttocks to get rid of dead skin and to clean pores. Then your bum is hooked up to a micro current therapy machine to sooth the bumps and the lumps. Not sure how I feel about this one, I think I like my butt just fine the way it is, but if it’s up your alley by all means go for it!
2) Wine Pool
Now I’ve heard of drinking a lot of wine until you felt like you were swimming in a pool of it, but actually doing it? Now that’s something I’ve never heard of, but I have heard of the effects wine can have on the skin so it does make sense. A spa in Japan, has available a huge pool filled with red wine which can help firm skin and reverse sun damage. This is a skin treatment I can get behind; just remember not to drink out of the pool!
1) Chocolate Body Wrap
If this doesn’t make you hungry then I don’t know what will. The Godiva chocolate body wraps. During this chocolaty experience you are slathered with a mixture of melted chocolate and muds then you are wrapped in a blanket to better absorb the benefits, which are soothing and hydrating the skin stimulating circulating and slimming your silhouette. It sounds pretty heavenly and pretty yummy, I dont know whether to eat it or use it as a skin treatment!
So there you have it, some pretty weird stuff in here. But hey, for us women out there one can never feel too beautiful so sometimes we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do no matter how weird. Just make sure its always something safe and that you don’t try it at home unless its from a bottle telling you that you can. Lets keep it safe ladies!
