Massage Therapist Job Outlook

Employment for massage therapists is predicted to grow 20% over the next several years, according to the US Labor Bureau.

In 2010, massage therapists held 153,700 jobs in the US. That number is expected to grow to add about 30,900 new massage therapist jobs by the year 2020, resulting in faster-than-average job growth, according to the Labor Bureau.

This growth is due in part to added interest in therapeutic massage as an alternative form of health care, as it is being used more in clinical settings such as hospitals, chiropractic offices and nursing homes, as well as in professional sports. In addition, insurance providers are considering it more often as a preventative form of medicine, recognizing its muscle relaxing and stress reducing capabilities.
